My Favorite “Something Blue” Ideas for the Big Day
Everyone knows the wedding tradition: “Something old, something new, something borrowed… and something blue.”
To some it’s a superstition, to others it’s a way to incorporate meaningful family heirlooms, or it’s just a fun way to add a pop of color!
Here are some of my favorite creative and chic ways my couples have included something blue in their celebrations:
💙 1. Blue Wedding Shoes
A classic with a twist! Whether you go bold with cobalt or soft with baby blue, your shoes are a great way to sneak in a little color without overpowering your look. For my wedding, I wore the classic Carrie Bradshaw Manolo Blahnik pumps, which was a fun excuse to go outside the box from the traditional white!
💙 2. Embroidered Details
Think monograms, initials, or your wedding date stitched in blue on the inside of your dress, veil, or even your bouquet ribbon. It’s subtle, sentimental, and totally custom.
💙 3. Blue Florals or Accents in the Bouquet
While all-blue bouquets can be bold and dramatic, even just a few soft delphinium or hydrangea blooms mixed in can give your bouquet that extra pop.
💙 4. Blue Jewelry
Jewelry is a timeless way to carry your “something blue” in a way that feels elegant and personal. Sometimes your old jewelry box has just what you need!
💙 5. Stationery & Signage
Add a touch of blue to your invitation suite or day-of signage. It’s a lovely way to weave in your color palette and can help tie everything together from start to finish.
💙 6. Blue Bridesmaid Dresses or Getting Ready Robes
This one is a favorite for photos! Whether it’s soft dusty blue or deep navy, incorporating blue into your bridal party’s look is both beautiful and on-trend.
💙 7. Signature Drink
Serve up a “blushing blueberry fizz” or a blue-hued cocktail at your bar! It’s unexpected, photo-friendly, and your guests will love the playful nod to the tradition.
Planning Tip: The best “something blue” ideas are the ones that feel like you. I love helping my couples come up with meaningful ways to incorporate traditions without losing their own unique style.
